Not sure if you know, but I live about three blocks to the north of the path of total destruction from one of the dozens of tornadoes that churned through Alabama back on 4/27... it basically ripped my little town of Pleasant Grove (just outside of Birmingham) right down the center...(it was the same EF-4 that started in Tuscaloosa) - I think the last figure was 700 homes or so were affected, and the bulk of those totaled (many, many vacant lots here now...) My house had no issues at all, save for power - cable - internet outage.

But as for 'preparedness'...I work for the folks that produce the building codes for generally the whole nation...and we have a 'standard' regarding storm shelters and 'safe rooms'. I have been really reading up on all of that info - and a BIG thing is that FEMA supposedly will foot the lion's share of the bill (well, via 'reimbusement') when you install a shelter - around 75%, up to $3500.00 - this is the general info I have heard...
Just letting you know this - I want to put it on G-ology, also, but I have had 'issues' posting... hopefully will iron out soon.

Thanks, Betsy!

KIG - VKMfanHuey
---VKMfanHueyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17360524951726605370noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-166175560682079561.post-8720049839975766232011-06-02T16:44:28.711-05:002011-06-02T16:44:28.711-05:00I'm sorry I haven't commented on here late...I'm sorry I haven't commented on here lately...for some reason, your blog isn't showing up as "updated" in my feed. Weird.

ANYWHOOO...yeah, Nebraska storms. Not fun. They can so very, very wicked. And I must admit, I'm not as prepared as I should be. I keep thinking, though, that if something were to happen, after I grabbed my daughter and my husband and our two cats (we got a kitty!), I would grab my laptop, too. *grin*Melissa Amateishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16086267508858187716noreply@blogger.com
