Summer is here, complete with heat, humidity, and pesky mosquitoes. The little buggars love me so much that I can't even go outside for one minute without being attacked. I currently have 5 bites on my face that make me look like I have zits. Hurray for summer!
Now, where's that sarcasm font....
I really do despise the heat, so for those of you who love it, I apologize in advance for offending you. Heat = Sweat, and Sweat = Yucky. As much as I love all things vintage, this is one area where I fully embrace modern technology.....Air Conditioning! Can not, and will not, live without it. So there.
Perhaps it would be different if I felt I could wear cutesy sundresses and shorty-shorts, or even a bathing suit to go swimming in. Alas, at this point, I cannot.
I have gotten off track on my weight loss journey. I have not gained any weight back (hurray!), but I have not progressed any further (booo!). So, my goal of reaching 60 pounds lost by October will have to be adjusted. But, starting today, I am re-motivated to get back on the ol' horse and get to gallopin'! I'm still proud of myself for getting to 20 pounds lost, and if I were already at my target goal, I'm doing all of the right things to maintain. But, I'm not at my target goal, so I need to stop pretending that all I need to do is maintain. I didn't go through all of this hard work to remain at 175 (technically, for the last two months I've been hovering between 172-175). I will be 135 again, I will, I will!
So, I have next summer to look forward to for wearing things such as these:
(funny aside, this polka dot dress I actually found on a clearance rack at a department store here, and lusted after it immediately. It was also in a size 16, which I thought, hey, after losing 20 pounds, surely it will fit! Alas, it was too tight in the waist. I was tempted to buy it anyway knowing I'd eventually fit into it, but I talked myself out of it. Now that I know I can find it online - I ripped this photo off of Overstock.com where I found it - I just may have to buy this one. It's so 30's-inspired, don't you think? Yes Husband, this is THE dress I was going on and on about.)
For those of you in the US, have a safe and happy 4th of July weekend!
Conrats on 20 lost! I know you'll reach your goal. =)
ReplyDeleteThat is an adorable dress indeed!

I love the vintage swim suits. Remember when there was some mystery?
ReplyDeleteLapetitemort: Thanks! I feel so ashamed that it's taken me so long to get past the hump.
ReplyDeleteJames: Agreed! I cringe now when I see what passes for modern suits and bikinis. How much smaller can they get - they might as well just go nude and save the money on the overpriced suit anyway.
...but the bikini is vintage, also!
ReplyDeleteIt is, yes....but the vintage ones still covered more than the miniscule scraps of fabric called bikinis today!
ReplyDelete...oh...what a fine dress by the way!
ReplyDelete*snicker* it is indeed, Husband! Now...can I buy it? :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't know my approval was ever necessary when it came to clothes...(keepin' it real, yo!)
ReplyDelete"keepin' it real, yo"
ReplyDeleteok, now you're scaring me.... lmao
I absolutely DETEST the summer, I am soo not a summer and heat person, I get all moody and grouchy :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your weight loss, good luck with the rest of it!
I like summer! I especially like all the fuzzy baby bunnies and the chirping little birds!
ReplyDeleteI always think I'm a summer person, until summer really hits. I guess my favorite times of year are the transitions: spring/summer and summer/fall. Is there anything better than the first day you wear shorts, or realize that you need a jacket?
ReplyDeleteDon't get down on yourself. Change is hard and never well paced.
Ugh - we just got back from New Orleans and even though I had a great time, I thought the heat and humidity would KILL me! I'm sure I sweat more in that 6 day period than I have in the rest of my accumulated 35 years.
ReplyDeleteI know from losing weight, and it is HARD! Those damn humps are the worst...I have been stuck at mine for over a year now. I have pretty much resigned myself to being big, so long as I am still healthy.
And I would totally go for that dress - it is gorgeous!
...well, changing the subject a bit - sorry to hear you share my talent of attracting mosquitos... anytime I wear shorts, I have to douse with OFF or whatever, or else it's pretty rough...
ReplyDeleteHang in there, G!
oh - and 'fojoy'... I hear ya on New Orleans - we were last down there about 3 weeks before Katrina hit, in early August... Gingerella, if ya wanna drop 7-10 pounds, just go walk around the French Quarter a day or two at that time of year... makes ya wonder "what were they thinking whan they built a city here?" But, it IS an awesome city - everyone should go there at least once... Ginger married her first husband (i.e., 'GooberheadHub #1') in NOLA... (you KNEW I had to throw in a VKM nugget, right?) speaking of which...
Keep It Gingery, Yall!!!

Stefanie: Grouchy and moody, yep, that's the way I am most of the summer!
ReplyDeleteHusband: noooo, summer is evil.
Straight Guy: I'm a spring/fall lover too. Not too hot, not too cold, just perfect.
Fojoy: I know what you mean, I have no illusions that I'll ever be a size 6, I just want to not have to shop in the plus size department anymore!
VKMFan: Oh I know, my mom is from Florida so that's where we would go for summer vacations. Same unbearable heat and humidity as New Orleans. The people that live in such places must be acclimated I guess, or LIKE to sweat! Nebraska can get pretty humid in the summer too, due to all of the crop irrigation and evaporation in the air. There's times that our humidity index even rivals Florida's. Funny, I thought I lived on the desert prairie, not in a subtropical state, lol!
I did not remember that about Ginger and the 'pepper dude. Good heavens, how did people live down there back then without air conditioning!?

I, too, hate the heat!! The only way I can bear it is while floating in my pool, or any body of water, or sitting in the a/c. I live in Florida..need I say more?
ReplyDeleteLooove the dress, adorable!
...well, I am in Alabama, of all places, so yep, it's a sauna most days here between May and October... needless to say, Air Conditioning is a MAJOR player in these here parts...
ReplyDeleteyep - Ginger was first hitched in Nawlins... I guess it was at the main courthouse in the French Quarter... wish I knew for sure - would like to check out the place. We may get down there before my daughter goes back to school on Aug 11 - which is disturbingly early, IMHO... I used to be out until after Labor Day!
Don't be so hard on yourself on hitting a wall on the weight loss and falling off the track - I have, too, after losing 25 pounds, I gained 5 back. SO frustrating. But I'm back on track now and hope to stay that way!
ReplyDeleteAnd for the record, I hate and loathe summer, as well. Give me the fall fashions and colors and TEMPERATURES any day!
